Will defeat ‘Kaurav Sena’ up to booth level this election & build a ‘Sunaulo Sikkim’: Golay

KUNAL RAI

GANGTOK: Chief Minister PS Golay on Sunday directed the Karntikaris to camp at the Assembly election ‘Kurukshetra’ for the next 75 days and deliver SKM’s sweeping victory up to booth levels against the ‘Kaurav Sena’ of the opposition parties.

“There is absolute no doubt on SKM winning all the 32 Assembly seats and in the Lok Sabha seat. But we don’t want to just defeat them, we want to make the ‘Kaurav Sena’ of Sikkim exploiters lose in every booth. In this year’s Kurukshetra, we must come together to defeat the anti-Sikkim forces. This is the fight for ‘Sunaulo Sikkim’, a prosperous Sikkim. Come and give your 75 days, don’t make excuses, pack up your bedding and go out to the people,” said Golay, also the SKM president.

He was addressing the mammoth gathering of the 12th SKM foundation day celebration at Rangpo ground.

The Chief Minister stressed that the 2024 election will determine Sikkim’s fate and urged the electorate to choose between ‘Sunaulo Sikkim’ and ‘Parivarbad Sikkim’. “The 2024 election will determine the fate of Sikkim, whether Sikkim will progress or regress. After the ‘Parivartan’ promise of 2019, let us today take another pledge for a ‘Sunaulo Sikkim’ and prosperous Sikkim. If you have faith in me, vote for ‘table lamp’ in the coming election,” he said.

Table lamp is the SKM’s election symbol.

“In another one and a half years’ time, Sikkim will complete 50 years of being a part of the Indian Union. We will be celebrating the golden jubilee and today we are at a historic occasion. If you want to make a ‘Sunaulo Sikkim’, the present government is ready. There are many parties who want to bring back ‘Parivarbad’ and caste politics. Hence we all have assembled here at a historic moment. There is a big responsibility in your hands, your one vote will determine the fate of Sikkim. Use the power of your vote for a better Sikkim,” said Golay in his appeal to the Sikkimese electorate.

The Chief Minister reminded the SKM government faced major challenges during its first term including the Covid pandemic of 2020-21 and Teesta flash flood of October 2023 besides attempts made to topple the government.

“Talks were made of changing the Chief Minister and toppling the government. Attempts were also made to dislodge the government. But we faced all these challenges strongly and went ahead in our mission to serve the people of Sikkim.”

The SKM president also countered the allegations coming from the opposition parties, whom he said, are suffering from “Golay phobia”.

“There is one side that have only thing which is to slander me day and night…they are suffering from ‘Golay phobia’. Actually they are not afraid of Golay, the real fear for them is the faith of the people of Sikkim on me. These forces have come together and built a ‘Kaurav Sena’ to stop the development of Sikkim and to work for the development of their own families. I tell them that Golay is the ‘Arjuna of Mahabharata’ and the people of Sikkim and SKM cadre with him as Lord Krishna. I will never be trapped in any ‘Chakravyu’ plotted by this ‘Kaurav’ army,” said Golay.

The Chief Minister maintained that the opposition are trying to doing a disinformation campaign on various issues.

“This ‘Kaurav Sena’ is spreading disinformation like Sikkim is becoming a district. How Sikkim can become a district? We have our own Article 371F. It is not us but the conspiracy to make Sikkim a district is happening outside the State”, he said.
