Women leaders rally behind ‘Shape of Momo’across Sikkim & Kalimpong

GANGTOK, : The growing conversation aroundSikkimese filmmaker TribenyRai’s debut Nepali movie ‘Shape of Momo’ continues to find support from inspiring women leaders across the region.

The internationally celebrated film, shot in Sikkim, was released on May 29 in select cinema halls across India and Nepal. The film is receiving an excellent response, especially in Sikkim and neighouring region of Darjeeling and Kalimpong.

AparajitaRai, Sikkim’s first female IPS officer and the Superintendent of Police of Kalimpong district, recently facilitated a special screening of the film for 80 college-going young women at Dream Theatre, Kalimpong.

In Gangtok, ChumilaBhutia, chairperson of the Public Health Engineering department, sponsored tickets for 50 women to watch the film at INOX.

Reacting to these initiatives, director TribenyRai said:“It is so essential for the women and men of my own society to watch this film. I am deeply grateful to individuals like AparajitaRai and ChumilaBhutia, who are enabling this process and helping the film reach communities that can engage with its themes in meaningful ways.”

The support extended by these leaders reflects a shared commitment to encouraging dialogue, representation, and community engagement through cinema. As ‘Shape of Momo’ continues its theatrical run, such initiatives are helping the film connect with audiences across Sikkim and the Darjeeling-Kalimpong hills.
