Give SKM five years to run govt: Golay

GANGTOK: SKM president P.S. Golay completed his Day Three of ‘Parivartan Sankalpa Yatra’ by reaching out and interacting with villagers in Daramdin constituency, west district on Saturday.
Golay had embarked the yatra on November 29 with stated objective of touring every village of Sikkim and engaging the people with the ‘Parivartan’ call of the SKM party for 2019 Assembly elections. He started the campaign from Dodak under Daramdin constituency.
During his interactions with the people, the SKM president spoke on why Sikkim needs a system change and what SKM can do for them, informs a SKM release.
“Time has come now to bring a change in Sikkim. People must be serious this time. We must not think for ourselves as our age has gone. We should think for our children and their future,” said Golay.
“It has been 25 years since SDF party has ruled Sikkim. It takes not more than 10 years to develop Sikkim considering its low population but the SDF is still asking for more time. The SDF is still promising that it would do this and that…and distributing tokens only during time of elections,” said Golay.
The SKM president told the villagers that he has come to interact with them to understand their grievances and problems. I have not come to seek votes, he said. I have come to tell the people about the condition of Sikkim and that we must all be united to bring a ‘Parivartan’, he said.
Golay asked the villagers to tell him what needs to be done for their upliftment. Our party will uplift the poor people and make them self-reliant, he said.
Golay said the State government has failed to solve the unemployment problem. Instead of giving permanent jobs to the educated youth, the State government is offering painkiller in form of adhoc employment, he said.
The SKM is focusing in west and south districts in its first phase of the yatra. The party had lost from all the 16 constituencies in the two districts.
“We could not win a single seat from south and west districts in 2014 as people may not had gained trust on SKM party that time. However, SKM has played a major role as an opposition party in these five years. We have raised our voice in all issues of Sikkim,” said Golay.
Give only five years to SKM to run and develop Sikkim and we will prove ourselves to the people by running a transparent and corruption-free government, said the SKM president. He promised permanent employment to jobless families within 100 days of forming the government. He said people of west district were ignored by the SDF government even though the district gave all the eight seats to the ruling front, the SKM release states.
