Party is fully prepared for panchayat polls: SKM

GANGTOK: The first meeting of panchayat election parliamentary committee of SKM was held today at Gangtok.
Chaired by acting president K.N. Lepcha, the meeting was attended by MLA Sonam Lama, working presidents M.P. Subba and Navin Karki, committee member Sharmila Tamang and member secretary Jacob Khaling.
Extensive matters regarding the upcoming panchayat elections were discussed, informs a SKM release.
The party is fully prepared and is ready to participate in the upcoming panchayat election in its full strength, said the SKM.
“This election, the SKM will be the voice of the people that will be raised against the presence of dictatorial stamp that this government has brought till the panchayat level. It will also be a fight against corruption and misuse of funds, which have crept into the panchayat level during the present government’s tenure,” said the SKM.
The SKM has demanded that the reservation rooster is released two months before the election so that the parties and individuals get ample time to prepare.
Panchayat committees for three districts were also announced by the SKM. The east district committee is headed by Neelu Chettri, Nima Wangchuk Lepcha and P.R. Subba in their respective zones.
L.N. Nepal heads the west district committee while Lalit Adikhari is in charge of south district. The north district committee is headed by Chunki Saring and Kado Lepcha, the SKM press release mentions.
The next meeting of the SKM parliamentary committee is scheduled on September 16 at Pakyong.
