PAKYONG: With a view of maintaining cleanliness in the town, roads and surrounding areas, the Pakyong gram panchayat has started creating awareness among the taxi drivers and residents on cleanliness and use of garbage bags in taxis and private vehicles for proper disposal of waste.
An awareness programme as part of the initiative was conducted for local traders and taxi drivers here today. Panchayat president Januka Dhakal urged the gathering to cooperate in the initiative and practice proper waste management to maintain cleanliness.
Pakyong BDO Chiren Rizal said the drivers have the responsibility to sensitise passengers on cleanliness and maintaining road and surroundings clean. He also urged the drivers to sensitise other drivers and install garbage bags in their vehicles within this month. The garbage bags would be installed in all private and taxi vehicles, it was informed.
Pakyong police station SI Ashish Bhujel said the drivers’ role is important in keeping the town and roads clean and urged them to take the responsibility.
RDA Sanju Pradhan informed that the garbage bag has been designed especially to install in vehicles and is low cost and washable.
The garbage bags were presented to the president of taxi drivers association on the occasion.
