Sikkim defeats Bihar in Santosh Trophy qualifiers

GANGTOK: Sikkim defeated home team Bihar 3-0 on Sunday at Begusarai in an east zone Santosh Trophy qualifying round match.
Striker Pelsang Lama scored a brace while striker Nagen Tamang scored one goal in the convincing victory of Sikkim over Bihar.
The Sikkim team was leading 1-0 in the first half with a 21st minute strike from Pelsang. Nagen doubled the lead in the 65th minute while Pelsang scored his second goal with a penalty shot in added time.
“Our team played very well in the match today. We had some problems to adjust in the first half as the ground condition was new to us. In the second half, we settled down and dominated the game,” said Sikkim team manager Arjun Rai over phone.
Former Indian football captain Bhaichung Bhutia is with the State team as the chief coach with Suren Chettri as the coach.
Sikkim now plays against Odisha on January 30. The group topper qualifies for the next round of Santosh Trophy national football tournament.
