Raju Bista criticizes Mamata Banerjee’s silence on rape and assaults in Siliguri

SILIGURI,: Darjeeling MP Raju Bista today criticized Mamata Banerjee for her alleged silence on the incidents of rape and assaults on girls from minority communities in Siliguri region and accused her of politicizing cases in other State while neglecting the situation in Bengal.

“The repeated rapes and assaults on our daughters, particularly those belonging to the minority Adivasi, Rajbangshi and Gorkha communities do not bode well for our region. The attack on tribal daughters and absolute silence maintained by TMC against such crimes shows their scant respect for the sentiments of our region and people. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee who leaves no stone unturned to politicize cases in other State, has maintained complete silence over the horrific rapes in Siliguri and nearby areas," said Bista in Naxalbari today.

Bista and his party workers had visited Naxalbari to express their solidarity with the victims of sexual assaults and their families. During his visit, he condemned the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC government for its failure to maintain law and order in Bengal and accused them of politicizing sensitive issues.

The BJP MP emphasized the importance of taking preventive measures and implementing deterrents to prevent such heinous crimes from occurring in the future. He urged the police and administration to conduct timely investigations into these crimes, regardless of the party affiliations of the perpetrators, to ensure that justice is served promptly for the victims. Bista underscored the importance of timely justice, stating that “justice delayed is justice denied.”
