5G labs launched for NE States, one installed at Sanchaman Limboo Government Degree College

GYALSHING, (IPR): In a historic moment for the North East Region (NER), the minister for Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER), G. Kishan Reddy, virtually inaugurated the 5G Experience Center from Tech City, Guwahati, marking the dawn of a new era of connectivity and technological advancement.

Gyalshing district is the recipient of this unique project being set up across the Northeastern States (one per State) with its hub at Tech City, Ghuwati.

The said 5G lab that went operational today has been established at the Sanchaman Limboo Government Degree College complex.

The virtual event was attended by Gyalshing DC Yishey D Yongda accompanied by SDM (HQ) Tirsang Tamang, panchayat president of Yangthang GPU, chief administrator/joint director (SMLDC), AD (Education), network engineers, officials, and students. The college proudly hosts one of the pioneering 5G labs developed under this ambitious project, generously funded by the Government of India.

The 5G Experience Centre initiative of the NEC has taken on board AMTRON (Assam Electronics Development Corporation Limited) as the implementing agency, and will serve as the epicenter of cutting-edge 5G innovations and applications. This hub is set to play a pivotal role in accelerating the deployment of 5G technology, bringing a multitude of benefits to its residents.

In her address, the DC expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Ministry of Development of North East Region, NEC and AMTRON for their commitment to fostering innovation and inclusivity in the region. She encouraged the students of the college and schools to embrace this opportunity to expand their horizons, emphasizing that they are at the forefront of this transformation.

Network engineer/ in-charge of the centre, Kesang Bhutia provided an overview of the project and explained the proper usage of 5G networks, underlining the significance of this technological leap. He and his other two colleagues have undergone extensive training imparted by AMTRON at Gurgaon recently.

The 5G lab at Sanchaman Limboo Degree College, Gyalshing will serve as a dynamic platform for local students, researchers, and entrepreneurs to explore the transformative capabilities of 5G technology. It is expected to act as a catalyst for innovation and development, empowering the youth of the North East to actively participate in the digital revolution.

Additionally, it is worth noting that all the applications will, through Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IOT), cloud, internet and normal smart-phone, provide solutions and use cases in health care to improve healthcare screening, solutions in locomotor challenges, prosthetic/orthotics, drip monitoring for hospitalized patients etc.

It may be mentioned that ECG machines and support equipment under the project have already been handed over to District Hospital, Gyalshing, PHCs and PHSCs in the district by Chief Minister PS Golay during his visit to the district on 2nd July 2023, in the presence of director (Sc&Tech), NEC and representatives of AMTRON.
