DARJEELING, : The Peshok tea garden, closed since 2015, reopened on Tuesday with a new management taking over the tea garden.
Darjeeling Terai Dooars Plantation Labour Union (DTDPLU) president Suraj Subba said: “The garden was reopened after a meeting between the trade unions. The new management and the Joint Labour Commissioner had a meeting at Siliguri where the new management has agreed to pay 100 percent of dues along with other facilities.”
The Silicon Agriculture Tea Company which has taken over the garden also did a 'bhumi puja' at Peshok tea garden before opening the tea garden.
According to the agreement between the management and the trade unions, the due wages and salary of the workers there would be given in three instalments of 40 percent when the garden opens, 30 percent within April this year and the rest within July 31.
Apart from this the pending gratuity will be given within July end along with 50 percent pending bonus of 2016-2017 within March and 2017-2018 LTA to be released by March 31.
The management would also be establishing a factory at the tea garden which has around 570 workers.
