GANGTOK,: Opposition SDF is now entirely uprooted from Rangang-Yangang constituency, asserted ruling SKM on Thursday.
The ruling SKM was commenting after a flag hoisting programme at the houses of those opposition party members from Rangang-Yangang who had recently switched over to the Krantikaris. They had joined the SKM during the ‘Rolu Diwas’ programme last month in presence of Chief Minister and party president P.S. Golay.
Among them were SDF active workers Avinash Yakha, CL Gurung, DB Gurung, Sonam Palzor Bhutia and SB Rai.
A SKM press release informs that the flag hoisting programme had presence of minister Sanjeet Kharel, Chief Minister’s press secretary Bikash Basnet and senior SKM leaders from Rangang-Yangang constituency.
Addressing the gathering, Basnet said the SKM under the leadership of Golay does not discriminate against the old and new party members. He said the people of Rangang-Yangang constituency have welcomed those who have joined the SKM and all have been accepted.
Basnet sought support from all to deliver a resounding victory for SKM from Rangang-Yangang in coming 2024 election and to bring comprehensive development in the constituency.
In his speech, minister Kharel reiterated that there are no new or old workers in SKM. He alleged that the previous government did not allow the political advancement of those who worked actively in the villages and local society. The present government is giving opportunities to those who want to work for the society, he added.
Kharel maintained that the opposition, while in power for 25 years, gave only fake allotments to the people. The opposition is now protesting the vehicles being distributed by the Chief Minister for the livelihood of the Sikkimese youth, he said.
The minister appealed that only one member from one family should meet the Chief Minister during his public meeting at Rangang-Yangang constituency. In this manner, all families can get time to meet the Chief Minister, he said.
The programme was also addressed by Avinash Yakha, CL Gurung and SB Rai who shared their bitter experiences while being in SDF, the release mentions.
