Three killed as landslides hit Majuwa village

GANGTOK, : Three villagers were killed when landslides broke out early Monday morning following torrential rains at Majuwa village of Rangang-Yangang in Namchi district. One more villager suffered serious injuries while around eight houses were severely damaged by the landslides.

Other villages in the vicinity are also affected while the main road connecting to Yangang has been washed away at Sisney, Namphok.

District authorities have swiftly initiated the rescue and relief measures in the affected villages. The vulnerable families have been shifted to safer locations.

Road connectivity is also disrupted in several areas in Namchi district due to heavy rainfall overnight. Eight major places were hit by landslides due to heavy rainfall leading to obstruction in transportation and travelling for commuters.

Meanwhile, CAP Sikkim vice president Anil Nepal along with the party members visited the landslide-affected village of Majuwa and met with the affected families and assessed the situation.

“The Citizen Action Party - Sikkim appeals to the people of Sikkim to come forward and extend their support to the affected residents of Majuwa village. We also urge the government to provide adequate compensation to the affected families, especially those who have lost their loved ones in this devastating natural disaster,” said the CAP Sikkim in a press statement.
