GANGTOK,: Three Sikkim footballers have made it to the U-17 team of Northeast United FC.
After the final round of selection trials held in Guwahati from June 1 to 3, Saurav Pradhan, Ayush Barary and Roshan Chettri featured in the 14-member list of U-17 players shared by the NEUFC.
The NEUFC had conducted trails for Sikkim players in Gangtok and Namchi in association with Sikkim Football Association.
“Achievements such as this are the most gratifying milestones of our servitude and we are immensely happy that three of our own from the whole of the North East were able to secure their place on the team. We wish them the best and hope they have a very productive and gratifying footballing career ahead,” SFA president Menla Ethenpa said in a SFA media statement on Monday.
General secretary Phurba Sherpa added, “These boys have worked extremely hard and shown meticulous attention to details. Most athletes do not realise it, but it's the ones that spot these career changing aspects of being a footballer that set these boys apart. They truly deserve their selections.”
