Cricket fun fair concludes in North Sikkim

GANGTOK,: The series of cricket fun fair organised by Sikkim Cricket Association (SiCA) in north district concluded today with the final event at Chungthang. Around 300 students from local schools attended the fair held at Phu-Phu Stadium.
The fair was inaugurated by Social Welfare Commission chairperson Nim Tshering Lepcha, in the presence of former zilla member Dikki Lepcha, panchayat members and local SKM Sports Wing members.
The programme was well-received by locals in and around Chungthang, informs a SiCA press release.
The chairperson, in his address, praised SICA for bringing cricket to remote corners of Sikkim. He also highlighted the importance of sports and financial benefits from cricket which is unheard of in any sports in India. He further mentioned that cricket in Sikkim has become extremely popular under the leadership of SiCA president Lobzang G. Tenzing.
“Sports is thriving under the able leadership of the honourable Chief Minister, as he is a sports lover,” he further added.
At the fair, brochures on basics of cricket and the benefits one can obtain from the sport were also distributed to the participants.
SiCA president urged the teachers and students to read the provided brochures. SiCA is willing to partner and participate with any institutions that show inclination towards cricket, he said.
SiCA said the three-day campaign in North Sikkim was a grand success. “The host schools and public of all the three venues went out of their way to make the event a success. The demand for hosting such events has started pouring in from all corners of the State,” added SiCA.
