Governor’s badminton championship to elevate to national level in future

GANGTOK, : The 3rd Governor's Badminton Championship 2023 is scheduled to be held from October 3 to 5. The tournament is hosted by Raj Bhawan in association with Badminton Association of Sikkim.

Addressing press conference today, Raj Bhawan secretary J.D. Bhutia provided details about the upcoming badminton championship.

The tournament will have four categories, namely, open men’s singles, open women’s singles, mixed doubles, and doubles for political leaders and officers holding positions equivalent to undersecretary rank and above. The matches for the doubles category will be held at Raj Bhavan badminton hall and the open events at the indoor hall of Paljor Stadium.

The finals will take place at the indoor hall of Paljor Stadium.

Participants in the open men’s and women’s categories must have a BAS-issued ID or be a member of BAS.

The winners will be awarded trophies, medals, certificates and badminton kits.

J.D. Bhutia, who is also the chairman of the organizing committee, said entry forms should be submitted to btournament23@gmail.com, and the registration fee should be paid online. The deadline for registration is September 25.

BAS president C. Zangpo expressed excitement about the association’s involvement in the tournament.

Additionally, it was revealed that this year’s championship would be held at the State-level with plans to elevate it to a regional and eventually national level competition in the future.
