SILIGURI, : The Sikkim Police, in coordination with Siliguri Metropolitan Police, recovered human skeletal remains from a locked room in a house located in the Kalkut area of Pramod Nagar in Devidanga, Siluguri.
Police suspect the remains may belong to Pasang Doma Sherpa, a 55-year-old government school teacher from Sikkim who had been reported missing by her son in January. The final identification will be confirmed only after a DNA test. However, family members have tentatively identified her based on the clothes found on the bed near the remains.
The skeleton, recovered on Thursday, has been sent for forensic examination. Initial investigations suggest the remains could indeed be of the missing woman, as the house in which they were found belonged to her.
Pasang Doma Sherpa served as a Nepali language teacher at a government school in Namchi district. She had purchased the Siliguri property some time ago and frequently visited the house.
Sources indicate that Pasang had been married twice. Her first husband, now deceased, was from Sikkim, and she had a son and daughter from that marriage. Later, she married a man from Bihar and settled in Siliguri.
She had been missing since August 7, 2024, without informing anyone, sparking concern among her colleagues, family and the school community.
According to Namchi SP Karma Gyamtso Bhutia, the body was recovered in coordination with Siliguri Police and efforts are underway to ascertain the cause and circumstances of her death.
