GANGTOK, : Dr. Sudarsan Tamang, a faculty member from Sikkim University, was
invited as a keynote speaker at the TEDx Punkunnam Thrissur event held on June
22 in Thrissur, Kerala.
The
prestigious event was part of the globally recognized TEDx platform, which
brings the spirit of TED’s mission - “ideas worth spreading” - to local
communities around the world.
Curated
by Vinay Ravi Nair, TEDx Punkunnam Thrissur was a full-day gathering of
visionary thinkers, changemakers, and creatives. Talks delivered during the

In
his keynote address, Dr. Tamang spoke on the theme of navigating uncertainty in
a rapidly changing world.
“We
live in uncertain times,” he began. “A tweet can crash the market. A new
algorithm can replace a job overnight. Climate change, wars, terrorism,
shifting global orders — the world is not linear anymore. The 10-year-olds of
today will work in jobs that don’t even exist yet. In this rapidly shifting
world, what do we really need to do to make our children future ready?”
Dr.
Tamang’s talk struck a deep chord with the audience, weaving together insights
from science, education, and lived experience.
A
respected academician and nanotechnology researcher, Dr. Tamang is also known
for his social initiatives and contributions to the arts. He is the founder of
Project Life, a grassroots movement that promotes healthy living and community
connection through running and wellness programs.

passionate long-distance runner. His athletic feats include winning the
Darjeeling Police 10K (2022), the Tata Steel Kolkata 10K (2023), and placing
second in the Ageas Federal Kolkata Half Marathon (2021). He was also part of
the record-setting expedition from Gangtok to Gurudongmar Lake, running 185 km
at an altitude of 17,800 feet, and completed the ultra-marathon from Kolkata to
Gangtok (K2G).
A
prolific songwriter, Dr. Sudarsan Tamang has penned over 60 songs for prominent
Indo-Nepali rock bands including Darjeeling-based Mantra, blending his artistic
side with his scientific and social commitments.
Other
prominent speakers at the event included Jeff Goldberg, an internationally
acclaimed writer, director, and actor; Brian Mac Mahon, a leading startup
investor with business interests in over 35 countries; and Indian chess
grandmaster Nihal Sarin.

Tamang dedicated his TEDx talk to his students and to the youth of Darjeeling
and Sikkim, saying, “This is for all the young dreamers who dare to believe
that they can make a difference — no matter where they come from.”
