GANGTOK, : The public of Gnathang and Kyangnosla GPU, JN Road led by their
panchayats called on Rajya Sabha MP DT Lepcha at his residence here at Lumsey.
They expressed their gratitude to the Rajya Sabha MP for continuously raising the
crucial demand for justice to the inhabitants or JN Road, Sikkim in the
Parliament.
The
JN Road encompasses villages extending from 3rd Mile to Dzuluk, a press release
informs.
The
delegation applauded the Rajya Sabha MP’s efforts in voicing the contributions
of the people of JN Road who are the descendants of those who sacrificed their
lives in service to the nation on the sacred soil of Indo-Tibetan Border or JN
Road and proudly carries forward the legacy of their ancestors’ stories, the
release states. The descendants now have been contributing immensely to the
national defence, State's economy and enhancing the global reputation ofSikkim.
The
Rajya Sabha MP has been emphasizing the urgent need to grant them justice
through permanent settlement rights under the Forest Rights Act, 2006, or any
other appropriate framework that would not only honour the sacrifices and
contributions of these residents but also strengthen India’s defence presence
in the region, especially in light of the growing infrastructure developments
across the border.
During
the meeting, Lepcha informed the public about various initiatives undertaken by
the MP’s office and urged the public to act as responsible citizens and oblige
to their fundamental duties, the release mentions.
Panchayat president
Pema Sherpa gave a brief on the works presently in progress in the GPU along
with the Vibrant Village Initiatives and the recent visit of the Governor to
the GPU.
After
carefully listening to the people's voice, the Rajya Sabha MP assured them of
regular follow-ups on the issue and a positive solution in days to come, the
