Lord Buddha statue unveiled at Raj Bhavan

GANGTOK,: On the auspicious occasion of the fourth day of the holy month of Saga Dawa, and in celebration of the momentous 50 years of Sikkim’s Statehood, a statue of Lord Buddha was unveiled in a solemn and spiritual ceremony at Raj Bhavan complex here on Friday.

Governor Om Prakash Mathur unveiled the statue of Lord Buddha at Raj Bhavan premises in presence of Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang-Golay, a Raj Bhavan release informs.

The ceremony commenced with sacred Rabney prayers, led by Tulku Thokmed Yeshey Dorjee from Dodrul Chorten Monastery. The Governor and the Chief Minister, along with the monks, offered their prayers for peace, well-being, and prosperity of the state and the nation. The prayers also served as an expression of deep gratitude to Lord Buddha for the five decades of harmony and progress that Sikkim has witnessed under the Indian Union, the release mentions.

The occasion was graced by the presence of Sikkim Legislative Assembly Speaker MN Sherpa, Ecclesiastical minister Sonam Lama, Gangtok MLA Delay Namgyal Barfungpa, chief secretary R Telang, DGP Akshay Sachdeva, Commissioner-cum-secretary to the Governor, Jitendra Singh Raje, Cultural Affairs secretary BK Lama, along with senior officials from Raj Bhavan, various government departments, and staff from different departments.

This unveiling holds deep spiritual and cultural significance, symbolizing Sikkim’s enduring values of peace, compassion, and unity, as the State reflects on its journey over the past 50 years and looks forward with faith and purpose, the Raj Bhavan release mentions.
