DELHI, (IPR): The India Today Group, in collaboration with the
Department of Information & Public Relations and the Tourism & Civil
Aviation department, successfully hosted a landmark event ‘State of The States
Sikkim@50’ celebrating the remarkable journey and the strategic role of Sikkim
on attaining 50 years of Statehood.
The
event, held at the Hyatt Regency, Bhikaji Cama Place, New Delhi, brought
together distinguished leaders, policymakers, educators, entrepreneurs,
innovators, investors, and cultural icons to spotlight Sikkim’s achievements
and vision for the future.
The
programme commenced with a welcome address by Raj Chengappa, Group Editorial
Director, India Today, setting the stage for a day of insightful discussions
and inspiring addresses.
The
session featured the Chief Minister of Sikkim, Prem Singh Tamang-Golay, who
brought to the forefront ‘The Glorious Journey & the Illustrious Road
Ahead,’ highlighting the State’s transformative
development and future aspirations.
The
Chief Minister emphasised key areas of progress, including quality education,
scholarships, healthcare, connectivity, and multi-lingual instruction. He
elaborated the effective afforestation policy of the State with the
interlinking of innovative and unique schemes of 'Mero Rukh Mero Santati',
'Shishu Samridhhi Yojana' and 'Mero Bato Mero Bot' and the sentiments of the people
connected with these schemes.
He
also underscored the State’s commitment to empowering entrepreneurs and
advancing a range of ongoing government initiatives focused on sustainable and
inclusive growth. His deliberation reflected Sikkim’s steady rise as a model of
balanced development, blending infrastructure expansion with social welfare and
economic opportunity.
In
his second term as the Chief Minister, he spoke about laying strong foundations
for the next 25 years, with a focus on innovation, sustainability, education,
youth empowerment, and inclusive governance. As Sikkim moves toward celebrating
50 years of its journey as the 22nd State of India, the Chief Minister
reaffirmed his commitment to building on past progress while setting ambitious
new benchmarks.
On
Sikkim's 50th Statehood milestone, the Chief Minister charted a bold course for
the State's future, aligning with the national vision of 'Viksit Bharat @2047'
and underscoring national security as a key priority.
In
his concluding remarks, the Chief Minister attributed Sikkim's progress since
2014 to the support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Central Government.
Responding to queries about additional demands, he humbly noted that the Prime
Minister's forthcoming visit, in itself, is the greatest blessing for Sikkim
and a testament to the government's commitment to the State's welfare.
Lastly,
the Chief Minister expressed his gratitude to the India Today Group for
successfully organising such a significant event, and extended his
congratulations to the group on completing 50 remarkable years of its journey.
