Rs. 4.46 lakh collected during ‘Sikkim for Nepal’ relief donation drive in Gangtok

GANGTOK, : A total of Rs. 4,46,940 was collected during the two-day donation drive organized by Dirty Angels Motorcycle Club (DAMC) in collaboration with Organisation of Musicians and Artistes of Sikkim (OMAS) at MG Marg, Gangtok in support of the humanitarian appeal ‘Himalayan Solidarity – Sikkim for Nepal.’

The entire amount collected on September 1-2 through public donations was formally counted at the District Control Room in the presence of SBS Managing Director Phurba Wangdi Bhutia, who was invited by APS to Chief Minister, Gangtok District, Tshering Wangchuk Lepcha, to witness the counting process and ensure that the collection was carried out in a fair, transparent and accountable manner.

A press release informs that the two-day fundraising drive was initiated in response to the call and appeal of Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang (Golay), for “Himalayan Solidarity – Sikkim for Nepal.” The initiative represents the spirit of compassion, brotherhood and solidarity shared by the people of the Himalayan region, particularly during times of hardship and crisis.

DAMC expressed its heartfelt gratitude to all the people who visited MG Marg and contributed generously towards the cause. Every contribution, irrespective of its size, has played an important role in making this humanitarian initiative a collective success, said the club.

“We also extend our sincere appreciation to the Organisation of Musicians and Artists of Sikkim and all the artists who came forward to perform selflessly and voluntarily in support of the charity drive. Their valuable participation helped bring the community together and encouraged greater public involvement in the campaign,” said the DAMC.

Special thanks were extended to the staff of Greendale School, staff of the Home Department, and the members of Bojoghari Taxi Stand for their collective efforts and contributions.

“As part of the club’s continued commitment towards the initiative, a team from Dirty Angels Motorcycle Club will be visiting Nepal in the coming days. During the visit, the team will meet with members of the Thamel Tourism Development Board and other relevant stakeholders to discuss and formulate a further action plan for extending the spirit of solidarity and support initiated through the “Sikkim for Nepal” campaign,” said DAMC president Gelek Gyatso Bhutia.

The upcoming visit will also provide an opportunity to understand the situation on the ground, engage with local representatives and explore meaningful ways in which the people and organisations of Sikkim can continue to extend their support to Nepal, said the DAMC president.

“DAMC once again expresses its deepest gratitude to everyone who contributed to and supported this initiative. The overwhelming response from the people of Sikkim demonstrates that humanity transcends borders, and compassion can bring communities together in times of need,” he added.
