Sikkim relief consignment reaches Nuwakotafter three-day border wait

NUWAKOT (Nepal), : Relief materials sent by Sikkim KrantikariMorchafor communities affected by the devastating flash floods in Nuwakot have finally reached the district after the consignment faced a three-day wait at Kakarvitta border for clearance.

The trucks carrying medicines, essential supplies and other relief materials had departed from Gangtok after Chief Minister Prem Singh Golay Tamang formally flagged off the relief consignment.

The relief trucks travelled from Sikkim towards Nepal and entered the country through the Kakarvitta border point in eastern Nepal. However, the consignment remained at the border for three days as it awaited the necessary clearance from the Nepalese authorities.

Following clearance from Nepal’s Ministry of Home Affairs, the trucks were allowed to proceed towards Nuwakot. The consignment reached Nuwakot today, bringing urgently needed assistance to people still struggling to recover from the devastating floods.

The arrival of the relief materials comes at a critical time, as several communities in Nuwakot continue to face shortages of essential goods and medical supplies following the flash floods. Homes, roads, businesses and other infrastructure were severely damaged, while many families have been displaced and are dependent on relief assistance.

Local communities have welcomed the arrival of the Sikkim aid, particularly the medicines and essential materials, which are expected to support families affected by the disaster and assist ongoing relief and recovery efforts.

The initiative also highlights the close ties between Sikkim and Nepal, with assistance being extended across the border at a time when Nepal is dealing with the aftermath of one of the most devastating flood disasters in the region.

The relief effort from Sikkim follows appeals for continued humanitarian support for flood-affected communities in Nuwakot and other affected districts. With many families still searching for missing relatives and struggling to rebuild their lives, the timely distribution of relief materials remains a major priority.

The consignment is now expected to be distributed among affected communities in coordination with local authorities and relief agencies.
