MINING,: The Plate Group tie of Cooch Behar Trophy between Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh, which marks Sikkim’s first home match of the season across all competitions, is evenly poised after Day 1 at the Sikkim Cricket Ground.

Sikkim evened things up with two quick wickets late in the day after letting the visitors off the hook with a handful of gaffes in the field.

At stumps, Arunachal Pradesh were 93-4 after batting for 30.5 overs having bowled Sikkim out for 195 in their first innings.

Vishal Gole was batting on 51 with new batsman set to give him company on Day 2 as the play was called off for the day with the dismissal of Tana James in the penultimate delivery of the 31st over.

With two wickets towards the end of the day’s play, including a brilliant caught and bowled, Parvin Kuikel has set the stage for an intriguing day.

With Sikkim captain Siddharth deciding to hand the red cherry to Parvin before the end of day’s play, the promising spinner lived up to the team’s expectations  with his twin strikes in quick succession.

Earlier, Sikkim registered 195 in 70.4 overs in their first essay. Badal Acharya top-scored for the hosts with 42. Roshan Prasad and Deepak provided some valuable runs before Sikkim lost their last four wickets for 17 runs

For Arunachal, Harsh Sharma scalped three wickets, while Pasang Norbu and Nabam Abo picked two wickets each.

This match marks a significant milestone as it’s the first time in almost two decades that the Cooch Behar Trophy is being held in Sikkim, and first since gaining full BCCI membership of the BCCI in 2018.

Sikkim, set to host eight matches this season at the BCCI-affiliated Mining venue, sees this as a positive step in developing cricketing culture in the State.

In addition to the Cooch Behar Trophy, the Sikkim Cricket Ground has secured three Col CK Nayudu Trophy matches and two Ranji fixtures this season.
