Sikkim For Nepal: Donation drive in Gangtok

DAMC, OMAS come forward to extend solidarity & support to Nepal flood-affected citizens

GANGTOK, : A two-day donation drive under the initiative “Sikkim for Nepal – Humanity Across the Borders” began on September 1 at MG Marg, Gangtok, bringing together people from across Sikkim in a collective expression of solidarity, compassion and humanity towards the flood-affectedpeople in Nepal.

The initiative has been undertaken by Dirty Angels Motorcycle Club (DAMC), with the support of the Organisation of Musicians and Artists of Sikkim (OMAS), to encourage citizens, visitors, artists, bikers, youth organisations, businesses and well-wishers to come forward and contribute whatever they can towards those affected by the recent crisis in Nepal.

Representing both OMAS and DAMC, Tshering Wangchuk Lepcha shared that only cash is being collected during the two-day donation drive and the entire collected amount would be sent to an organization based in Kathmandu to undertake relief works in the flood-affected areas of Nepal.

“Whatever amount would be collected in this two-day donation drive will be transferred online to Thamel Tourism Development Council, Kathmandu. The council will be using the amount to undertake relief-related works like holding medical camps and distributing relief materials in the affected areas,” said Tshering Wangchuk.

“Both OMAS and DAMC came forward with this initiative to show our solidarity and extend support to the flood-affected people of Nepal. This is also our response to the call made by our Chief Minister to the people and organisations of Sikkim to show their solidarity and support to the people of our neighbouring country,” said Tshering Wangchuk.

Tshering Wangchuk is also the additional political secretary (Gangtok district) to the Chief Minister.

On Monday, a 35-member team of ruling SKM headed towards Nepal carrying three trucks of relief materials and medicines. The convoy was flagged-off by Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang-Golay.

We urge the people of Sikkim to come forward to extend support from their side, appealed DAMC and OMAS executives.

The two organizations are in touch with Thamel Tourism Development Council, Kathmandu regarding this initiative from Sikkim.

It was informed that Thamel Tourism Development Council had undertaken a similar donation drive for Sikkim to extend support during the October 2023 GLOF flash flood in Sikkim. The council then came to Gangtok and donated the collected amount to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
