NAMCHI,: Rescue
teams have recovered the bodies of all 25 people killed in the suspected
methane gas explosion in the under-construction headrace tunnel of the NHPC’s
Teesta-VI Hydroelectric Project at Samardung, Jholungey in Namchi district on
July 20 with the recovery of three bodies today.
The
search and rescue operation lasted four days. Following the recovery of the
25th victim, a final search of the tunnel was conducted by the NDRF team at
12:30 pm. The attendance records were subsequently verified with the concerned
companies, and no reports of any additional missing persons were received.
After all necessary confirmations and formalities were completed, the rescue
and search operation was officially called off at 3 pm, the IPR department
said.
Of
the 25 victims, 11 were form the neighbouring State of West Bengal, four from
Jharkhand, two each from Jammu & Kashmir and Uttarakhand, and one each from
Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Sikkim, Punjab and Assam.
The
deceased comprised workers and officials associated with NHPC Limited, ARX and
Patel Engineering Limited.
