GANGTOK,: Governor Om Prakash Mathur, who
is on a three-day visit of Mangan district, conducted a comprehensive
inspection of various development projects and implementation of schemes in the
district today on the second day of his tour.
The Governor first visited and inspected the
under-construction 360ft long bailey bridge ‘Zema-II’.
Border Road Organization (BRO) official Lieutenant
Colonel Hemant Kumar briefed the Governor in detailed about the work progress,
technical aspects, present status and strategic initiatives aimed at
strengthening operational capabilities across border regions.
The Governor lauded the effort made by the BRO and stated
that once completed, the bridge will greatly improve connectivity in border
areas of North Sikkim and benefit the local people of the region.
Thereafter, the Governor visited the holy Gurudongmar
lake located at an altitude of 17,800 ft near the China border and offered
prayers. He also reviewed various development initiatives being carried out
under operation "Sadbhavana" outreach of Indian Army mainly focused
on development and infrastructure including constructing community halls,
tourist viewpoints and utility facilities.
The Governor then visited the Indo-Tibetan Border Police
Force’s Kerang Post (11th Battalion), situated at an altitude of 17,000 feet.
The Governor also visited Donkhyala Pass, the highest
motorable forward post situated at an altitude of 18,400 feet, and interacted
with the troops. He commended them for their exceptional dedication and
resilience in the face of challenging conditions.
