GANGTOK, :A
three-day seminar and workshop for archery coaches from East and North East
Zone started today in Gangtok.
The
programme, organised by Sikkim Archery Association (SAA)in collaboration with
Olympic Gold Quest and Archery Association of India, has brought together 46
Level-1 coaches from Assam, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Chhattisgarh,
West Bengal, Jharkhand and Sikkim.
Chungda
Sherpa, head coach of archery at Khelo India Centre of Excellence, Sikkim, said
the event was being organised in the State for the first time.He said the
workshop aims to update coaches on the latest guidelines, rules and modern
techniques in archery so that they can better train young and aspiring
athletes.
Alongside
theoretical sessions, participants are also receiving practical training.
Sherpa
said similar programmes are being conducted across the country in different
sports as part of the Central government’s vision to strengthen grassroots
coaching and support the Mission Olympic initiative.
He
expressed hope that the participating coaches would adopt the new knowledge and
techniques while training their athletes.
Organisers
said they hope that more advanced coaching programmes will be held in Sikkim in
the future to further strengthen the State’s archery coaching system and
support local athletes.
