GANGTOK, : LokSabha MP (Sikkim) Indra Hang Subba met Land Ports Authority of
India (LPAI) chairman Jayant Singh in New Delhi to follow up on the proposal
for establishing an Integrated Check Post (ICP) at Chiwabhanjyang along the
Indo–Nepal border, as envisioned by the SKM government under the leadership of Chief
MinisterPrem Singh Tamang-Golay.
During
the meeting, the lone LokSabha MP from Sikkim highlighted the strategic,
economic and people-to-people significance of Chiwabhanjyang Pass, located
along the Indo-Nepal border in West Sikkim. He emphasized the importance of
developing modern border infrastructure to facilitate regulated trade, tourism
and cross-border movement. He conveyed that the proposal holds immense
potential for regional development, particularly for the border areas of
Sikkim, a press release on Thursday informs.
Indra
Hang emphasised the Sikkim government’s initiative to
establish Chiwabhanjyang Pass as an Integrated Check Post, terming it a
positive and forward-looking step towards strengthening bilateral ties between
India and Nepal. He noted that the ICP would not only enhance connectivity and
economic cooperation but also promote cultural exchanges and people-to-people
relations between the two neighbouring countries.
The
LPAI chairman was apprised of the ground realities, the long-term benefits of
the project, and the need for coordinated efforts between the Centre and the
State to take the proposal forward in a time-bound manner.

Hang reaffirmed his commitment to pursuing the matter with all concerned
authorities to ensure that the proposal receives due consideration in the
larger national and regional interest, the release mentions.
