GANGTOK, : Sikkim’s LokSabha MP Indra Hang Subba on Monday met the NHIDCL
chairman-managing director Dr.Krishan Kumarat his office in New Delhi.
During the meeting, Indra Hang discussed the
current status of NH10, the lifeline connecting Sikkim with the rest of the
country, which is presently closed for vehicles for repairs for four days. He
raised concerns over the frequent disruptions and difficulties faced by
commuters due to recurring damages and blockages along various stretches of the
highway, a press release informs.
The
LokSabha MP also enquired about the proposal for a new or alternative alignment
to ensure long-term and reliable connectivity for the State. He urged the
NHIDCL to expedite the preparation and sanctioning of the Detailed Project
Report (DPR) for the proposed alignment.
Indra
Hang suggested identifying vulnerable locations along the existing alignment
and strengthening them so that the next monsoon floods do not trigger
landslides on the valley side of the road.
The
technical director of NHIDCL shared plans to construct viaducts and steel
structures to bypass the landslide-prone stretches affected during the recent
monsoon, with the target of completing these works before the next monsoon
season.
Furthermore,
the LokSabha MP requested the deployment of additional machinery and manpower
to strengthen the existing road infrastructure and make NH10 more resilient,
especially before the onset of the next monsoon season.
The
meeting concluded with the NHIDCL chairman-managing director assuring that
necessary steps will be taken to address the issues raised and to ensure
improved connectivity for Sikkim and its people, the release from the LokSabha
MP’s office informs.
