54,209 voters deleted, total voters in Sikkim stands
at 4,18,467
GANGTOK,: The total number of eligible electors in Sikkim stood at 4,18,467 after 54,209 voters were deleted from the final electoral roll published under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2026 on September 6.
As per an official press note, there are now 2,12,534
male voters, 2,05,931 female voters and two ‘third gender’ voters in Sikkim
following the completion of SIR 2026. There were 4,71,018 voters enrolled in
Sikkim before the SIR process began earlier this year in June.
It was informed that 54,209 voters were excluded from
the final electoral roll under SIR 2026. Among them, 37,724 voters fell under
the ‘Absentee, Shifted, Dead and Duplicate’ (ASDD) category, while 16,485
voters were found ineligible during scrutiny by Election officials under the
unmapped category and for logical discrepancies.
A total of 10,837 names of deceased persons were
deleted from the electoral rolls, while 8,648 voters were found absent or
untraceable.
Decisions in respect of unmapped electors and cases of
logical discrepancies were taken by the concerned Electoral Registration
Officers and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers after issuing notices
and conducting hearings and/or collecting requisite undertakings and BLO
undertakings, as per the provisions and facilities made available in ECINET by
the Election Commission of India (ECI), said the office of the Chief Electoral
Officer (CEO), Sikkim.
Altogether, 1,24,519 notices were issued by the
electoral authorities to the voters under the unmapped and logical
discrepancies categories. The concerned electors were asked to attend hearings
before the electoral officials with the requisite documents.
The final electoral roll has been published after due
consideration of claims, objections, hearings and verification processes
prescribed by the ECI, said the office of the Sikkim CEO.
Those aggrieved by the exclusion of their names from
the final SIR electoral roll can file an appeal before the competent authority
within the prescribed period.
There were 572 polling stations in Sikkim before SIR,
while 53 new polling stations were created before the publication of the draft
roll. The total number of polling stations during the draft and final roll
stages is 625.
SIR 2026 | Who are these 54,209 excluded voters in
Sikkim?
37,724 Voters: Those in the categories of Absentee,
Shifted, Dead and Duplicate. Among them, 10,837 are dead voters while 14,603
had permanently shifted.
16,485 Voters: Those found ineligible during the
notice and hearing period.
