GANGTOK,: For the first time, Sikkim has been selected as the host venue for
the 49th Yonex Sunrise Junior National Badminton Championship (Individual &
Team – U-19) 2026 by the Badminton Association of India (BAI).
Badminton
Association of Sikkim (BAS) president Jacob Khaling, while announcing the
upcoming national meet, shared that this prestigious and nationally recognized
tournament marks a historic milestone for Sikkim as the State will host top
junior badminton players from across the country competing at the highest level
for the very first time.
The
tournament is scheduled from November 14 to 21 later this year.
The
BAS president extended heartfelt gratitude to HimantaBiswa Sharma, Chief
Minister of Assam and president of BAI, Sanjay Mishra, honorary general secretary,
and the entire BAI executive committee for their trust and support.
“Under
the esteemed chief patronship of Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang-Golay, we are
confident and fully committed to organizing this championship to the highest
national standards. We will leave no stone unturned to ensure that the event is
grand, successful, and impactful,” said Khaling.
The
BAS president said this championship will undoubtedly be a landmark for Sikkim
and a strong source of inspiration for the young athletes. It will provide them
with a valuable opportunity to witness and compete alongside the finest talents
in the country, he said.

sporting community, to come forward and extend their support in making this
prestigious national tournament a grand success, said the BAS president.
