Afghan national held in Kalimpong for illegally staying in India

DARJEELING,: A 28-year-old Afghan national was picked up by Kalimpong Police on Friday for allegedly staying illegally in India.

The man, identified as Sayed Bilal Khan, son of Abdul Mohammad of Patkika, Yusuf Khel, Kabul, Afghanistan, was staying as a tenant at Haat Bazar near the Chest Clinic in Kalimpong.

According to a social media post by Kalimpong Police, the action was taken following source information. During interrogation, it was revealed that Khan is an Afghan national allegedly living in India illegally, the post said.

Khan was produced before a local court.

The police have also urged people to verify tenants at the nearest police station before renting out their properties.
