GANGTOK,: Several leaders and functionaries from opposition parties of Sikkim have joined the SKM party as the ruling front prepares to celebrate its 14th foundation day on February 4. They were warmly welcomed into the SKM by party president and Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang-Golay on Sunday.
Prominent among those who joined the ruling front included former SDF ministers Sonam Gyasto Lepcha and Tshering Wangdi Lepcha, former SDF legislators Ugen Nedup Bhutia and Bek Bahadur Rai, and former SDF spokesperson Rikzing Norbu Dorjee Bhutia.
Also joining the SKM from SDF were 2024 Assembly election candidates Kesam Subba and Mani Kumar Gurung, trade front leader Lakpa Sherpa, and senior vice president Tashi Gyatso Bhutia.
Their formal induction into the SKM is expected to take place during the 14th foundation day celebrations at Rangpo ground.
Welcoming the former legislators, ex-ministers and youth leaders into SKM, Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang-Golay expressed that their collective experience in public service and grassroots engagement will strengthen the party’s organisational efforts. Their association with us reflects a shared commitment to people-centric governance and inclusive development, he said, adding that he looks forward to working together to further the progress and welfare of Sikkim and its people.
Golay remarked that the decision to join SKM reflects their strong belief in the SKM party’s ideology, leadership, and commitment to inclusive governance. Their diverse political backgrounds, electoral experience, and strong grassroots presence will greatly enhance our collective strength, he added.
