Mangan DC chairs emergency preparedness meeting

MANGAN,  (IPR): District Collector Mangan, Anant Jain, convened a meeting today to review and strengthen internal arrangements and preparedness in case of any exigencies in the district.

The meeting focused on coordination among various departments to enhance vigilance and emergency response capabilities.

The District Collector emphasised the need for a comprehensive and practical implementation of air raid mock drills across the district.

These drills will be carried out once the installation of warning sirens is completed in key locations.

ADC Development, Mangan, and Chungthang were instructed to coordinate with Panchayat members to improve vigilance in rural areas.

Special attention was drawn to monitoring the presence of outsiders, and village authorities were advised to report any suspicious or unidentified individuals to the police without delay.

Superintendent of Police Sonam Detchu Bhutia informed that regular checks are being conducted at lodges and hotels to verify guest credentials. He also briefed the meeting on the rising threat of cyberattacks and urged all stakeholders to remain vigilant.

In light of the district’s proximity to the international border, residents and visitors were strictly instructed not to photograph army movements, installations, or communication towers. Awareness should also be given to local drivers and transporters, particularly in anticipation of increased tourist inflow in the coming months.

The DM further highlighted that communication breakdowns and power outages pose a greater challenge during disasters. To mitigate this, arrangements will be made to deploy district officials at BSNL during emergencies to facilitate the operation of diesel generators (DGs) for backup communication.

The District Civil Supplies Officer (DCSO) reported that the Food and Civil Supplies Department is actively monitoring local markets to curb overpricing of essential commodities. Ration supplies, LPG, and fuel are also under strict surveillance.

It was also informed that the oxygen plant at the District Hospital Mangan is currently linked to the new hospital building. Once operational, the oxygen facility will be fully functional and capable of meeting local healthcare needs. The Health educator raised concerns regarding the shortage of specialists, calling for necessary interventions to address these gaps.

Officials present at the meeting included Superintendent of Police Mangan, ADC (Development) Mangan and Chungthang, CEO (Education), DCSO (Food and Civil Supplies), MEO (Mangan Nagar Panchayat), DE Power Department, Deputy Director DDMA, SDE BSNL, and Health Educator, District Hospital Mangan.
