GANGTOK, : The State BJP has expressed its deep resentment and strong objection against the Sikkim Public Service Commission (SPSC) for its failure to provide mandatory information under the Right to Information (RTI) Act 2005.

By withholding data concerning the Sub-Inspector (SI) recruitment results, the commission has not only disregarded the principles of transparency but has also validated the growing public suspicion regarding the integrity of the selection process, said State BJP spokesperson SangayGyatsoBhutia in a media statement on Tuesday.

Following the publication of the Sub-Inspector results on November 26, 2025, a massive public outcry erupted across Sikkim. Serious allegations of nepotism, favoritism, and gross misconduct were levelled against the SPCS by aspirants and civil society alike.

In an effort to uphold the sanctity of this constitutional body, the BJP filed an RTI application on November 28, 2025, seeking comprehensive details of the examination and evaluation process. The party’s intent was to provide the SPSC an opportunity to clear its name and prove its innocence before the people of Sikkim, said Bhutia.

On December 16, 2025, the BJP received a response from the State Public Information Officer (SPIO). However, instead of providing the requested information, the commission merely cited certain provisions of the SPSC Amendment Rule 2017 to deny the data, said the State BJP spokesperson.

“The SPSC is hiding behind legal technicalities to avoid basic accountability. By denying information that affects the future of thousands of Sikkimese youth, the commission is acting against the larger public interest.  When a constitutional body uses loopholes to deny the society the right to facts, it isn’t protecting the law, it is protecting a system which many now believe is captured,” maintained Bhutia.

Unsatisfied with this "misleading and evasive" reply, the State BJP has today officially filed for an Appellate Hearing with the Sikkim Public Service Commission.

“The party prays that the Appellate Authority directs the SPIO to release all necessary information immediately, as thousands of aspirants futures hang in line and to keep the soul of meritocracy alive in Sikkim. The BJP maintains that we are committed to the youth of Sikkim and will continue to fight for our shared future,” said the spokesperson.
