GANGTOK, (IPR): Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi, in collaboration with Khangchendzonga State University, organised Nari Chetna and Nepali Poets’ Meet at the seminar hall of Nar Bahadur Bhandari Government College today.
Principal Secretary to Chief Minister who is also the Convener of Nepali Advisory Board, Sahitya Akademi, SD Dhakal graced the programme as the chief guest. In his address, he expressed his gratitude to all the literary figures who had gathered and noted that their participation gave importance to the occasion. He stated that the paper presentations delivered during the programme were informative and carried relevance for the younger generation. He said that such sessions were necessary for upcoming literary figures in the State as they provided them with knowledge, exposure, and an opportunity to reflect on new ideas.
SD Dhakal encouraged the young writers to continue their efforts and contribute works of value. He observed that writings produced by them would serve as learning material for future generations and help them advance in their literary journey.
He said that they were prepared to create platforms for writers and extend support to emerging literary figures. He added that these measures would enable them to gain recognition, develop confidence, and contribute towards strengthening the literary environment of the State.
The Nari Chetna session focused on women’s voices in literature and their role in shaping cultural and social narratives. Papers were presented by Professor at Nar Bahadur Bhandari Government College, Geeta Niroula, Principal at Namchi Government College, Deepak Tewari, Assistant Professor at Nar Bahadur Bhandari Government College, Sardha Chettri, and former student of Khangchendzonga State University, Goma Devi Chettri.
The presentations examined themes of identity, gender representation, and creative expression, and highlighted the contributions of women writers in Nepali literature. The session also created a space for interaction between scholars and participants, encouraging reflection on the role of literature in addressing contemporary concerns.
The Nepali Poets’ Meet brought together established and emerging poets, including former and present students from Khangchendzonga State University, to share their poems.
Poem recitations were presented by Rekha Thatal, Geeta Devi Sharma, Arati Sharma, Srijana Sharma, and Upasna Sharma. The recitations explored subjects including cultural identity, social issues, and human experiences, offering diverse poetic styles and interpretations.
Earlier, the welcome address was delivered by Assistant Professor, Khangchendzonga State University, Dr Suchan Pradhan, while the word of thanks was proposed by Assistant Professor, Khangchendzonga State University, Dr Rina Rai.
The programme had the presence of deputy director of Information and Public Relations Department also the Member of Nepali Language Consultation Committee, Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi, GS Subba, Assistant Professor of Nar Bahadur Bhandari Government College, Dr Udai Sharma, and Assistant Professor of Nar Bahadur Bhandari Government College, Dr TB Chettri, who were present as Special Guests.
Other dignitaries present in the event were president Sikkim Akademi SR Subba, general secretary (literature) Sikkim Akademi Purna Yonzon, general secretary (administration) Sikkim Akademi PL Sharma, vice president Sikkim Nepali Sahitya Parishad Bhakti Sharma, administration secretary Nepali Sahitya Parishad Ratna Luksom Subba, executive member Nepali Sahitya Parishad Usha Sharma, Assistant Professor Khangchendzonga State University Dr Ratna Bahadur Rasaily, along with literary figures, dignitaries, and students from Khangchendzonga State University and Nar Bahadur Bhandari Government College.
