Sikkim CM attends NDA meeting, congratulates Modi on becoming longest-serving elected PM

GANGTOK,: Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang-Golay on Wednesday attended the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi.

On the occasion, the Chief Minister congratulated Modi on becoming the longest-serving elected Prime Minister in India’s democratic history, surpassing the record of 4,398 days held by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.

This remarkable milestone reflects the unwavering trust of the people, his visionary leadership, and tireless dedication to nation-building, said Golay.

He also highlighted the Prime Minister’s transformative vision of a Viksit Bharat by 2047 and expressed confidence that this collective aspiration of Indians will be realised under his leadership.

Making special mention of the Northeast, Golay conveyed his gratitude for the Prime Minister’s unwavering commitment to the region. He recorded that under the leadership of PM Modi, the Northeast has emerged as a hub of opportunity, development, and progress.

By recognising the region as “Ashta Lakshmi,” he has elevated its stature and ensured that it occupies a central place in India’s development journey, said the Chief Minister.

Golay highlighted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Sikkim during the State’s Golden Jubilee celebrations remains a matter of great pride for the people of the State.

I also noted the remarkable growth of the NDA under his leadership, from a coalition of 25 parties during the tenure of the revered Late Atal Bihari Vajpayee to a strong alliance of 39 parties today, built on the principles of trust, mutual respect, and collective progress, said the Chief Minister.

On behalf of the people of Sikkim, I extended my heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to the Prime Minister, praying for his continued good health, long life, and strength as he leads India towards becoming a developed nation and a Vishwaguru, said Golay.

At the meeting, the NDA passed a resolution marking 12 years of the Narendra Modi-led Union government, describing it as a defining phase of "people-centric development, participative democracy and performance-oriented governance".

During the meeting, coalition allies congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi for becoming the longest-serving democratically elected Prime Minister in consecutive terms, having completed 4,399 days in office.

The NDA also said India had seen 13 Prime Ministers in the preceding 62 years, highlighting what it called the "exceptional continuity" of leadership under PM Modi.

The NDA statement said the past 12 years have witnessed major structural reforms, including the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST), labour reforms, repeal of obsolete laws, banking sector recapitalisation, and a sharp decline in non-performing assets.

It said India had moved from being grouped among the "Fragile Five" economies to becoming one of the world's fastest-growing major economies.

The alliance credited the Narendra Modi government with expanding India's startup ecosystem and emerging sectors such as semiconductors, renewable energy, drones, space technology, and advanced manufacturing.

The resolution also highlighted the NDA's political expansion, saying that the alliance now governs States representing more than three-fourths of India's population and territory, and has expanded its presence across multiple regions since 2014.

Reaffirming its commitment to the vision of "Viksit Bharat 2047", the NDA said it would continue working for inclusive development and cooperative federalism.
