GANGTOK,: National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has awarded A+ grade to Sikkim Manipal University (SMU).
With A+ grade certification, the SMU is among the top of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in India to be granted such a coveted rating, informs a press release.
SMU is one of the very few universities in Eastern and North Eastern India to be awarded A+ Grade by NAAC. The university scored a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.28 on a 4-point scale in the Re-Assessment Cycle-1 of Accreditation.
SMU scored 3.91 in Institutional Values and Best Practices; 3.45 in Student Support and Progression; 3.6 in Curricular Aspects and 3.26 in Teaching-learning and Evaluation.
It is to be mentioned here that, a six-member NAAC domain expert peer team had visited the SMU from August 17-19 for the second cycle of accreditation of the University.
Dr. Sarman Singh, former director, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Bhopal was the chairperson of the peer team. The team also included Dr. Vishal Goyal, director, Centre For E-learning and Teaching Excellence, Punjab University as coordinator, Dr. Priyanshu Rathod, professor and dean, faculty of Medicine and director, School of Physiotherapy, RK University, Gujarat; Dr. Dinesh Kumar Singh, Director, AMIMS, Bathinda, Punjab; Dr. Anand Pandey, professor, Symbiosis Institute of Technology, Pune and Dr. Leena KC, Dean and Principal, Yenepoya Nursing College, Mangalore as members.
SMU vice chancellor Dr. Rajan S. Grewal said, “The NAAC peer team undertook comprehensive review of the university, its institutes, colleges and various departments, including its establishments and facilities in the medical campus in Tadong, East Sikkim and Technology campus in Majhitar, East Sikkim to verify, validate, assess and award scores on the objective and credible qualitative metrics. The NAAC Peer Team transparently and diligently evaluated the performance parameters, which included curriculum enrichment, teaching-learning systems and processes, research infrastructure, facilities, students’ development, college management and coordination, including institutional values and best practices. The team also interacted with various stakeholders of the university during presentation and in groups with students, faculty, parents, alumni and staff. The SMU has been praised for its numerous strengths by the NAAC Peer Team, who especially appreciated the university for its excellent academic delivery, progressive curriculum, infrastructure, high quality research and development.”
The visit ended with an exit meeting on August 19 where the peer team shared their experience and feedback of the university to the faculty members and staff of SMU, the release mentions.
