GANGTOK, : Sikkim BJP president DR Thapa on Friday held a productive meeting with
NHIDCL executive director Ashok Kumar Saha at the regional office here
regarding a Ring Road around Gangtok and national highways.
The
discussion focused on the progress of ongoing NHIDCL projects in Sikkim, with the
State BJP president emphasizing the need to ensure minimal disruptions for
commuters on national highways during the monsoon season. He urged NHIDCL to
prioritize maintenance and timely interventions to address weather-related
challenges, ensuring safe and smooth travel for Sikkim’s residents, a State BJP

The
meeting also served as a follow-up to a recent interaction with the
Parliamentary Standing Committee on Transport, Tourism, and Culture, during
which Thapa had met VishweshwarHegdeKageri, MP from Karnataka at Gangtok.
In
that discussion, Thapa submitted a memorandum advocating for the construction
of a Ring Road around Gangtok to alleviate future traffic congestion in the
capital city.
During
today’s meeting with Saha, the State BJP president reiterated the importance of
the proposed Ring Road, exploring its feasibility, potential challenges, and
alignment with Sikkim’s infrastructure development goals. He stressed that the
project could significantly enhance traffic management and urban mobility in
Gangtok, benefiting both residents and tourists.
Additionally,
Thapa highlighted the need for sustainable and resilient infrastructure to
support Sikkim’s growing tourism sector and economic development. He requested
NHIDCL to expedite project timelines while ensuring quality as well as
addressing the local issues.
