Addressing the Youth Crisis in Sikkim: A Call to Action for Parents and Government

LETTER

Dear Editor,

The alarming rise in rape cases, suicidal tendencies, and drug abuse among the youth in Sikkim is a pressing concern that demands immediate attention from parents, government, and society at large. As the future pillars of our nation, our children need guidance, support, and protection to navigate the challenges of modern civilization.

Parents play a vital role in shaping their children's values, behaviour, and well-being. However, the complexities of modern life require collaborative efforts from the government, educational institutions, and community stakeholders. We need to work together to create a safe and conducive environment that fosters moral sciences or ethics, character development, and responsible decision-making among our youth. Therefore we need

A. Heart-touching counselling services that address emotional needs and promote mental well-being, while also promoting spiritual growth and inner strength through values like compassion, empathy and self-awareness.

B. Strengthened laws and policies that protect children from exploitation, with strict enforcement and accountability

Ultimately, the responsibility lies with each one of us – parents, authorities, and individuals to ensure the well-being and safety of our children. Let's take proactive steps to address these issues and build a brighter future for our Sikkim's youth

Ultimately, it is the collective responsibility of every individual, not just society to contribute to the well-being of our youth. Each one of us can make a difference by being a positive influence, offering support, and promoting a culture of kindness, understanding, and accountability.

Your’s etc,

Sonam Tshering Tamang
