Ubhauli Puja celebrated at Bagdogra

SILIGURI,: Ubhauli Puja of Rai community was observed in a grand manner at Bagdogra’s MM Terai village where hundreds of people from entire North Bengal, Sikkim and neighboring country Nepal witnessed the traditional festival.

The gathering performed traditional puja by praying to their natural deities in an event organized by Yalambar Hang Kiranti Khambu Rai Cultural Institute at Mangkhim complex.

Organizing committee executive member Indra Kumar Rai informed that the festival has been organised with great enthusiasm since 1997 and people across North Bengal, Sikkim and Nepal participate to offer puja. The festival has historical values and also aims to preserve the traditions and cultures of Rai community, he said.

Rai community members wearing their traditional dress performed dances and played drums at nearby Balason River and offer prayers to their deities.
