GANGTOK, : The Biswakarma Pratibha Samman 2026, organised by
the Sikkim Biswakarma (Kami) Kalyan Samity, was held at Manan Kendra here on
Wednesday.
The event was attended by Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang-Golay as the
chief guest, along with MLA and chief patron Madan Cintury, cabinet ministers,
dignitaries and invited guests from Sikkim and the neighbouring hills of
Darjeeling and Kalimpong.
The organising committee presented prestigious awards, viz. the Bhairav
Bahadur Lamichaney Lifetime Achievement Award to Dr Bela Rani Cintury, the Man
Bir Singh Rasaily Kalam Puraskar to Bhim Thatal and the Man Bir
ShivashankerShilpakar Puraskar to Chanakya Tiruwa.The committee also
felicitated eminent personalities including Justice Meenakshi Madan Rai, Tilak
Gazmer, Dushant Pariyar, Dr Sanjay Gazmer and Lieutenant Sanchitanand
Biswakarma.
“The Sikkim Biswakarma (Kami) Kalyan Samity was established in 1997, and
the Biswakarma Pratibha Samman has been held since last year. The event is not
merely to entertain us, but to showcase the talents of artisans from the
Scheduled Caste community. Today, on its concluding day, the event saw
participation from artistes from different parts of Sikkim and the neighbouring
hills,” expressed the Chief Minister.
The Chief Minister further shed light on the mass blood donation drive
conducted recently, the ‘Mom & Me’ ramp show and Mr& Miss Biswakarma
Youth Icon organised by the committee, with special focus on the Youth
Parliament.
“The Youth Parliament was a commendable effort on your part. Through
this Youth Parliament, you didn’t just connect the youth of your own community,
but brought together all sections of Sikkim’s society. The youth are the future
and, through the Youth Parliament, you have worked to prepare the younger
generation,” commended Golay.
He thanked the community on behalf of the State government.
The Chief Minister also commended the Maruni dancers for preserving the
art and culture.
On the occasion of Biswakarma Pratibha Samman Day, the launching of the
BPS website was described as an important step.
Golay said the website was a modern initiative for the 21st century
through which the younger generation could connect closely with the
organisation. However, he stressed the need to form a team to monitor and
manage the website and review the activities taking place on it.
“Merely launching a website and leaving it unattended won’t yield any
benefit. I propose that you set up a team to review what comes up on the
website. Furthermore, the flagship programmes undertaken by your committee and
organisation, specifically those aimed at helping students in need of support
for their studies, providing scholarships, taking elders to religious places
and organising coaching camps, are exemplary efforts not just for one
community, but for the entire State of Sikkim,” said the Chief Minister.
Golay urged the gathering to be proud of belonging to the community.
MLA and chief patron Madan Cintury expressed that the Youth Parliament
is training the youth for the future. “Under the leadership of our Chief
Minister, we are training the youth for the future. Youth from each community
should be groomed for the future,” he said.
The MLA further highlighted the different flagship programmes launched
today.
Sikkim State Human Rights Commission chairperson Justice Meenakshi Madan
Rai thanked the State government for its support and the organising committee
for the felicitation. She urged the gathering to be proud of their community
and encouraged members of the Scheduled Caste community to avail various
benefits.
She briefly highlighted the life story of her grandfather, Man Bir Singh
Rasaily, under whose name the Man Bir Singh Rasaily Kalam Puraskar was
presented.
Late Anand Gazmer was also remembered during the event.
The mentors of Sikkim Youth Assembly, Sandhya Lamichaney, Bishal Darnal,
Prakash Sundas, Yogesh Sharma and Bishal Hingmang, were presented with tokens
of appreciation.
The event was followed by a series of events and cultural presentations
by artistes from Sikkim and the neighbouring hills of Darjeeling and Kalimpong.
The official website of Biswakarma Pratibha Samiti was launched by the Chief
Minister. Various flagship programmes of the Samiti were also unveiled. The
Satai Jung album was also released.
The winners of the grand finale of the Mom& Me ramp show and Mr&
Miss Biswakarma Youth Icon were also declared.
The Biswakarma Pratibha Samman 2026 is the second edition of the event. It was established in 2025.
