Sikkim University secures NITI Aayog, FICCI support for incubation centre at Yangang campus

GANGTOK, : Sikkim University has secured high-level institutional backing from NITI Aayog and Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) for setting up an incubation centre at its permanent campus in Yangang, the university said on Wednesday.

University vice chancellor Prof. Santanu K Swain discussed the proposed incubation centre with NITI Aayog senior lead Dr. Prabhakar Sahu during a meeting in New Delhi. Swain presented the university’s vision for creating an incubation ecosystem that would nurture innovation, entrepreneurship, and industry-academia collaboration in Sikkim.

Sahu assured the vice chancellor that NITI Aayog would extend the necessary support to facilitate the early establishment of the incubation centre at the permanent campus in Yangang, the university said.

The proposed facility is expected to promote innovation, entrepreneurship, start-up culture, industry-academia collaboration and skill development, besides creating opportunities for students and young innovators in the region.

Swain also met Dr. Barada Prasad, director, Startups, R&D Innovation and Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), FICCI, and discussed avenues of collaboration for establishing the incubation centre at Sikkim University.

Prasad assured the university of full support in developing the centre and strengthening innovation partnerships that would benefit the university’s long-term growth.

Earlier, Swain visited the Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR), where he held discussions with member secretary Dr. Manoj Sharma, deputy secretary Dr. Vinod Singh and other senior officials on expanding academic collaboration between ICHR and Sikkim University, including support for research initiatives and the organisation of national and international academic events through the university’s Centre for Buddhist Studies.

During the discussions, ICHR agreed to sponsor a two-day conference in collaboration with Sikkim University in November 2026, the university said.

Swain also inaugurated ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ plantation campaign in the ICHR premises in New Delhi.
