‘Empowered
Aama, stronger Sikkim’: Golay
GANGTOK, : Chief Minister P.S. Golay on Saturday handed over cheques under Aama Sashaktikaran Yojana to 1,000 eligible mothers of Rhenock constituency, reaffirming the State government’s commitment to strengthening the economic independence and dignity of women.
Addressing
the beneficiaries, Golay said the scheme was not merely a financial assistance
programme but an initiative aimed at providing mothers with greater economic
strength, confidence and the ability to make decisions for themselves and their
families.
The
assistance can be utilised according to the needs and priorities of
beneficiaries, including children’s education, household requirements, farming,
livestock, small enterprises and other livelihood activities, he said.
The
Chief Minister said the government had also introduced “Aama Samman Puraskar”
and “Pragatisheel Aama Puraskar” to recognise deserving mothers and honour
inspiring examples of how assistance under the scheme was being utilised.
He
highlighted a range of women-centric initiatives, including the Aama Sahayog
Yojana, Vatsalya Yojana, Bahini Yojana, Shishu Samriddhi Yojana, maternity
benefits, reservation for women in government services, healthcare initiatives
and measures for women's dignity and safety.
“These
are not isolated schemes,” Golay said, emphasising that they form part of a
larger commitment to making the lives of Sikkim’s women safer, more dignified,
economically independent and empowered.
Recalling
the influence of his own mother, the Chief Minister said her struggles,
blessings and unconditional love had shaped his life and continued to inspire
the government's women and mother-centric initiatives.
He
said the support extended to mothers was also aimed at strengthening families
and communities, adding that an empowered mother contributes to an empowered
family and society.
Concluding
his address, Golay said the government’s objective was not merely to place a
cheque in the hands of an Aama, but to place strength in her hands, confidence
in her heart and the power to shape her own future.
“An
empowered Aama means an empowered family, an empowered society, and a stronger
Sikkim," he said.
