Thousands of women received financial assistance under Sikkim Aama
Sashaktikaran Yojana during a series of cheque distribution programmes held
across Soreng district on Saturday.
The State Women, Child, Senior Citizen and Divyangjan
Welfare department organised the programmes at various block and
constituency-level locations to provide financial support aimed at
strengthening families and promoting the socio-economic well-being of mothers.
Programmes were held at the Engineering Complex Hall
at Malbasey for Soreng-Chakung constituency, Mangalbarey Bazar and Kaluk BAC
for Rinchenpong constituency, Jorethang Community Centre for Zoom-Salghari
constituency and Daramdin BAC for Daramdin constituency, informs an IPR
release.
At Malbasey, 1,298 beneficiaries and three Sangha
beneficiaries from Soreng-Chakung constituency received cheques. The
beneficiaries included residents from 13 Gram Panchayat Units.
Addressing the gathering, Soreng-Chakung MLA Aditya
Golay thanked Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang for introducing the scheme and
urged beneficiaries to use the assistance for productive purposes and
livelihood improvement.
He said 1,500 beneficiaries from each constituency
would be covered under the scheme in the coming days. He also highlighted other
government initiatives, including support for NEET aspirants and medical
students and the Sikkim Garib Awas Yojana.
At Baiguney BAC, cheques were distributed to
beneficiaries from Gelling-Baiguney, Samsing-Piplay, Zoom-Salghari,
Mabong-Segeng and NJNP. The beneficiaries numbered 135, 144, 177, 177 and 367
respectively.
Another 100 beneficiaries under Zoom-Salghari
constituency were informed that their assistance under the Sikkim Aama Sahayog
Yojana would be credited directly into their bank accounts through direct
benefit transfer (DBT).
At Kaluk BAC, 546 constituency-level beneficiaries and
eight Sangha beneficiaries received cheques, while 59 beneficiaries were
informed that their assistance would be transferred through DBT.
At Mangalbarey Bazar, 449 beneficiaries received
cheques, besides eight Sangha beneficiaries. Forty beneficiaries were informed
that they would receive assistance through DBT.
At Daramdin BAC, a total of 996 beneficiaries received
benefits under the scheme, the release mentions.
Daramdin MLA and Sikkim Legislative Assembly Speaker
M.N. Sherpa, thanked the Chief Minister for his support towards women and
mother-centric welfare schemes and appreciated officials involved in
coordinating the distribution programmes.
The programmes were attended by MLAs, elected
representatives, government officials, panchayat members and representatives of
various departments.
The Sikkim Aama Sashaktikaran Yojana is a State-wide
initiative aimed at supporting mothers and strengthening their socio-economic
security, officials said.
