GANGTOK,: The Sikkim Football Association (SFA), under the aegis of the All India Football Federation (AIFF), successfully inaugurated the SFA “A” Division S-League 2026 with an exciting opening fixture between Sikkim Police Football Team and Sikkim Boys Football Club on 16 July 2026 at Paljor Stadium, Gangtok.
The opening match proved to be a thrilling contest, with Sikkim Police Football Team emerging victorious by 4-3 over Sikkim Boys Football Club, informs a SFA press release.
Ajay Tamang hit the winning goal in the 85th minute for Sikkim Police after both teams were locked in 3-3 draw.
Milan Chettri, Mingma Tshering Lepcha, and Sangay Chopel Bhutia were the other goal scorers for Sikkim Police team.
Nawang Bhutia hit a brace while Prayash Gurung scored one goal for Sikkim Boys FC.
The match showcased high-quality football, determination, and sportsmanship from both teams, providing spectators with an entertaining start to the league. The successful organization of the opening fixture reflects the Sikkim Football Association’s continued commitment to promoting football and nurturing sporting excellence across the state under the guidance of the AIFF, the release mentions.
The inaugural match was graced by Chewang Zangpo Bhutia, President of the Sikkim Olympic Association, as the chief guest, while Mahindra Dhakal, General Secretary of the Sikkim Chess Association, attended the event as the guest of honour, informed the SFA.
